Suspected Money Launderer Arrested By Customs With $767,500

A suspected money launderer, Yusuf Taofeeq Olanrewaju, has been nabbed by the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command with $767,500. In a statement, the NCS said Taofeeq, with passport number A03758685, was arrested while trying to board an Emirates flight number EK782 to Hong Kong via Dubai through the E wing of the Lagos airport.
The passenger and the said amount have been handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), for further investigation it further said.
The public relations officer of the Nigeria Customs Service at the Airport Command Office, Mrs Thelma Williams, said though the passenger declared the said amount on the prescribed forms CDF1A and CDF1B, he could not explain satisfactorily the source of the money.
Williams explained that upon investigations, by Customs, the passenger was observed to be a frequent traveller. “Upon investigation, the passenger, Yusuf Taofeeq Olarewaju was noted as a frequent traveller with currency as follows: on April 27, 2012, $182,000, which he took to Hong Kong.

Ritualists mutilate body of 3-yr-old girl in Ilorin

Culled from Vanguard The sight of the mutilated body of a three-year-old girl, Aliya Usman, killed by suspected ritualists, yesterday, threw residents of Ile Onigboro, Ita Elefun, Ita Ogunbo, Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, into deep mourning. The bereaved family had earlier lost the immediate younger brother of the deceased to a strange illness about 10 months ago, making the death more pathetic. When Vanguard visited the scene, the severed head of the victim was spotted at a refuse dump covered with a polythene bag while the remains of her badly mutilated body was deposited at a newly constructed soak-away pit. Most of her body parts and organs were missing, and sympathisers rained curses on the callous and heartless killers. Also, a red piece of cloth with a syringe carefully wrapped inside was found close to the severed head, lending credence to the assumption that her abductors drugged her before carrying out the dastardly act. Narrating the incident, which occurred Tuesday, mother of the deceased, Aminat Usman, who wept profusely, described the death as a rude shock, adding that the family had lost the immediate younger brother of Aliya, AbdulSamad to strange illness about 10 months ago. Amina said on that fateful day, when she woke up, she had hurriedly boiled rice for the family as Aliya didn’t eat her supper the previous day, adding that after she had eaten, she plaited hair, after which she was dressed in one of her beautiful clothes. “However, I never knew that I was preparing her for the final journey home,” she added. The deceased’s mother, a petty trader at Adabata, who relocated to Ilorin with her husband on the prompting of their parents to fully care for the children, said she became suspicious when the father, Tajudeen Usman, a driver, who plies the Ilorin-Lagos route at Sawmill garage enquired after the deceased at 12p.m. on the said day. “I told him that she should be with the other children at her grand-father’s place. When I didn’t see her at the time I expected, I became very suspicious because this was very unusual of her. “But after frantic search for her yielded no fruit up till about 7p.m., I became very apprehensive. At that moment, I felt cold. It was the shout from the search team later the next morning, at 6a.m. that threw the neighbourhood into agony.”

2 pastors jailed ten years over N1 billion deposit scam

Pastor Glory Abrefera and Rev Vincent Okpogo Culled from PM News A Nigerian High Court has sentenced two ‘men of God’, Pastor Glory Abrefera and Reverend Vincent Okpogo to 10 years imprisonment each over a N1 billion deposit scam. Justice Ibrahim Buba of the Federal High Court in Asaba, capital of Delta state, found the duo and their company, Mustard Seed Micro Investment Limited guilty on a four count charge of carrying out banking practice without licence. The accused persons were said to have collected over N1 billion from different individuals and organizations as deposits in an illegal banking practice. They have also failed to account for all the deposits they collected. Mustard Seed Micro Investment Limited was convicted on two counts and fined N2 million on each of the counts. Pastor Abrefera and Reverend Okpogo, both directors of Mustard Seed Micro Investment limited, were also convicted on two counts and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment each. They were equally fined N2 million on each of the counts. The terms are to run concurrently. The accused persons were said to have sometimes between 2006 and 2007 at Warri, Delta State engaged in banking practice without the required banking license and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 2(2) of the Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act, Cap B3, Vol 2, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004. Part of the charge reads: “that Pastor Glory Okeoghene Abrefera, Reverend Vincent Okpogo and Mrs Nonye Abrefera (still at large) whilst being directors of Mustard Seed Micro Investment Limited sometime between 2006 and 2007 at Warri, Delta State within the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court knowingly consented to the carrying on of banking business without a valid licence by the company thereby committed an offence contrary to Section (2) and 49(1)of the Banks and other Financial Institutions Act Cap B(3), Vol 2, laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004”. The so-called men of God were arrested following a petition filed by some of the depositors to the EFCC, detailing the dubious activities of the accused persons. The EFCC subsequently intervened, investigated the activities of the voodoo bank and arraigned the suspects in 2011. Counsel to EFCC, G. K. Latona described the judgment as a milestone in the Nigerian judiciary. He said it was the first time that persons were convicted for carrying out banking practice without the required licence. Delhi gang-rape suspects to appear in court tomorrow

Metropolitan magistrate Namrita Aggarwal issued summons to Ram Singh, 33, his brother Muk-esh, 26, and their alleged accomplices Pawan Gupta, 19, Vinay Sharma, 20 and Akshay Thakur, 28, to be in a Delhi court. Public prosecutor Rajiv Mohan told the court that the "death summary" from Singapore's Mount Elizabeth Hospital was corroborated by the reports from the Delhi hospital. Explaining why the murder charge was being brought against the accused, he said the complications were a result of injuries caused by an iron bar. Mohan said the woman had died last weekend of "septicemia, or blood poisoning, from multi-organ failure due to multi-organ injuries" after she was repeatedly raped and violated with an iron bar. A sixth male accused, identified as a minor, has been ordered to appear in the Juvenile Justice Board tomorrow. The victim died at Mount Elizabeth Hospital on December 29 after a two-week struggle to survive her many injuries. The woman, who was with a male friend at the time of the attack, was gang-raped and beaten on the bus before being stripped and thrown out on the street. Indicating the presence of strong evidence against the accused, the public prosecutor revealed that they had recovered the rods used in the attack against the girl and her friend. The police also have obtained a statement from the woman's friend as well as forensic evidence. At the district court in south Delhi yesterday, the magistrate said that she had "taken cognisance of the case". She was expected to transfer the case to a separate fast-track court set up specifically to deal with the trial. Mohan said: "The blood of the victim tallied with the stains found on the clothes of the accused," Mohan said. "We are relying on the statements of the victim and her male friend," he added. He said the accused had tried to destroy evidence by burning the victims' clothes. The blood stains found on the burnt pieces of clothes had matched the blood samples of the victims, he added. They also matched the blood of the victims with the stains found on the clothes of the accused, he said. The magistrate, on the prosecution's plea to ensure the protection of the name and identity of the gang-rape victim, also ordered that documents with the victim's name be kept sealed until required. Copies of the charge sheet which will be given to the accused, has the letters "XYZ" in place of the victim's name As details of the crime continue to be revealed, demands are also growing for the authorities to lower the age of a juvenile under the criminal justice system. This has been triggered following reports that the minor accused of being involved in the gang-rape was the most brutal of the lot. The Congress party and many state governments have supported lowering the age from 18 currently down to 16. Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said that the government was studying the issue.

Celebrity babies get the spotlight even before they are born, and baby Kimye is not an exception. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have however made a huge decision about their unborn child — he or she will NOT be a reality TV star … not as an infant, anyway.
While most of the Kardashians’ lives are fodder for their hit reality show … sources close to Kim told TMZ she and Kanye don’t want their baby dragged into the family biz. They’d rather keep that part of their lives separate from “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” … so they can “ensure real privacy” for the baby.
According to sources, Kim is saying the baby will NEVER be on the family’s show or have its own spin-off — nor will there be a ‘Kim Gives Birth’ TV special … she and Kanye are nixing that idea too. However, Kim will not be shy about her remaining months of pregnancy. We’re told she intends to share that with reality cameras because she thinks being “pregnant is great and cute.”
Baby Kimye sources say was conceived close to the Vatican. The deed the sources say was done back in October … during Kim and Kanye’s romantic trip to Italy to celebrate Kim’s 32nd birthday. The couple was photographed all over Rome as they toured the Colosseum, the Sistine Chapel, and, of course … the Pope’s pad. It was learnt Kim is about 12 weeks along … so the math adds up. Sources hinted that the actress has been off movie location for sometime because she was admitted at University College Hospital,Ibadan.

Mr. Yinka Quadri, her former boss confirmed the news just as report says that effort was being made to raise some funds for her in the hospital. Olasco, her marketer has also confirmed the news of Bisi Komolafe’s death.

A short biography of Bisi shows that when she was alive, she belonged the Odunfa caucus of the Yoruba movie industry. The actress had a traditional wedding to Canadian based Tunde Ijadunola in Ibadan, Oyo state. She was very popular for her role in the movie, Igboro ti daru

Meet The Gold Man Who Wears Shirt Made Of 22 Karat Gold

After 30-year-old businessman Samrat Moze followed the footsteps of late legislator Ramesh Wanjale and caused a major stir in Pune early this year by moving around the place wearing golden ornaments — weighing 8.5 kilograms — on his body, a third gold man has now surfaced in the same city of western Maharashtra in India.
The new gold man, Datta Phuge, has stitched himself a shirt made out of the precious yellow metal weighing approximately 3.5 kilograms. The shirt is in addition to 6 to 6.5 kilograms of golden ornaments — including chains, bracelets and rings and necklaces — that he has been wearing for the past few years.
In effect, this “10 kilogram gold man” — as 42-year-old Phuge prefers to call himself — is being valued in terms of money at around Rs3.25 crore (N92,514,500), of which the golden shirt — his new possession — is a part and it is worth Rs1.27 crore (N36,151,820).
Apart from wearing so many golden ornaments, what made him to stitch himself a golden shirt?
“Unlike many, I have no passion for high-end luxury vehicles like Audi or purchasing something else that is fancy. I had money and wanted to invest in gold. Even while investing in gold, I wanted to do something that would earn me the title of being a gold man. Then the idea of stitching myself a golden shirt came to me when I visited a jewellery shop a month ago,” Phuge told newsmen over the phone from Pune.
A finance broker by profession, Phuge is the husband of an NCP corporator from Pune Seema Phuge. “I am a Maratha (a person belonging to a warrior caste). Marathas have fascination for wearing golden ornaments. I am no different”.
Ask him as to how did he land so much of money to purchase such a huge quantity of gold. “I had landed property at Chakan near Pune. In 2005, there was a proposal to set up an airport in that area. As a result, land prices shot up phenomenally. Making most of the situation, I sold two acres of land that I owned. Whatever the money I earned from the sale, I invested in a financial firm which helped me get sizeable returns. Of the money earned, I have re-invested on gold,” Phuge said.
According to Phuge, velvet cloth has been used from inside to stitch the golden shirt. “Though there is gold on its exteriors, it is stitched in such a way that it can be folded and kept inside a shelf like any other shirt. In all, It took jewellers 17 days to have the golden shirt stitched,” he said. The shirt has been stitched by Ranka Jewellers, a leading jeweler firm based in Pune, using 22 karat gold.
Asked if the shirt is going to be his permanent possession, Phuge replied in the affirmative and said: “Yes I am going to keep it with me till I am alive”.
Despite being a finance professional now, Phuge has an ambition of becoming a Member of Parliament (MP) someday in the future. “If NCP fields me as a candidate in the forthcoming Lok Sabha poll from Shirur constituency in Pune district, I am more than willing to contest,” Phuge said in a matter-of-fact manner.
It was Wanjale who incidentally came to be known as the first-ever gold man of Pune. However, after the untimely demise of the “original” gold man in June last year, Moze sought to replace Wanjale and earn the sobriquet of being the new “gold man” of Pune.
Reacting to the golden shirt that Phuge has stitched for himself, ruling Nationalist Congress Party, NCP’s Pune-based spokesperson Ankush Kakade said: “Datta Phuge is not an active worker of the NCP. Yes. His wife Seema Phuge is an NCP corporator. Our party does not approve of the vulgar display of wealth as being done by Datta Phuge. It is his personal matter. The NCP has nothing to do with it”.
