FIFA Rankings: The Super Eagles 31st, Brazil at Historic Low No. 22

Brazil has dropped to a historic low of No. 22 in the FIFA rankings a year out from hosting the World Cup, and the Super Eagles are now on the 31st position, despitea win against Kenya.
The Eagles are still fourth in Africa behind the Ivory Coast, Ghana and Mali.
World and European champion Spain stays top. Germany, Argentina and Croatia are next.
The Netherlands rises four spots to No. 5. England drops two to No. 9.
Portugal (No. 6), Colombia (No. 7), Italy (No. 8) and Ecuador (No. 10) round out the top 10.
According to FIFA, the results of 30 friendlies up to 2 June were taken into account, while the results of the FIFA World Cup qualification matches on 4 June are to be included in the next edition.
The next FIFA World Ranking will be published on July 4, 2013.

Senate stops N4billion First Ladies’ Mission House project

The Senate yesterday Wednesday June 5th dropped the controversial African First Ladies' Peace Mission House project when it passed the N259.65bn budget of the FederalCapital Territory for the 2013 fiscal year without approving the N4bn appropriated for it.
In February when the budget proposal was brought to the National Assembly, it contained N4bn vote for the construction of the mission house in Abuja, a development that attracted a lot of criticisms from members of the public.
The Senate, during the second reading of the bill, questioned the rationale of committing scarce resources to prosecute a less important structure.
Civil rights groups and political parties had also berated the Federal Capital Territory Administration for budgeting N4bn for the construction of the building for a non-governmental body headed by the wife of the President, Mrs. Patience Jonathan.
They had contended that since the Federal Government hadearlier declared the mission as a non-governmental organisation, it would be inappropriate for the same government to spend public funds on it.

"I was inspired by the beauty of Kim Kardashian and felt quite put-off by the media's criticism of her weight gain during pregnancy," Edwards said in a statement. "Such criticism should be off limits."
"We live in a media-absorbed culture where anyone can access and share a celebrity's most intimate moments," added Cory Allen.
The unveiling of Kardashian's sculpture took place on Wednesday in L.A. Visitors were also encouraged to rub the statue's belly for good luck.

Three Killed In Cross River Community Clash

At least not less than three people were killed in a communal clash involving two communities in Cross River State. This started when Inyima community in Yakurr Local Government Area of the state was allegedly invaded by neighbours, Adun community, in Obubra Local Government Area also of Cross River State.

The invasion, which was carried out by armed men suspected to have come from Adun village destroyed over 300 houses,and rendering about 5, 000 people homeless including women and children.

The attack was alleged to have been masterminded by aggrieved youths who claimed that a man from Inyima community had stolen cassava tubers from a farm belonging to an Adun man.

Though he was subsequently arrested by the police; youths in the village were not satisfied and felt that Inyima people had undermined their "superiority" to dare them.

National Mirror correspondent who visited the community about 200 kilometres from Calabar, reports that the community was in ruins as almost every residential building was either burnt or demolished.

The newly constructed and fully equipped primary healthcare centre in the community was destroyed, including facilities such as beds, drugs, solar panel and other essential facilities.

Household properties were burnt to aches and domestic animals such as goats, fowls, dogs were killed and their carcasses littered the village.

The atmosphere in the village was gloomy and the village deserted as only very few courageous men were left in the village while women and children came in only to salvage whatever property was left.

In all the five camps visited, displaced persons numbering over 5,000 were seen mostly in public buildings such as schools and churches. The camps are located in Assiga old and new towns, Igbo-Imabana, Nko and Assiga beach.

State Deputy Governor, Mr. Efiok Essien Cohbam, who visited the village, described the level of devastation as barbaric and uncalled for.

Cohbam said it was pathetic that the state government's lofty programmes of providing social amenities such as roads, hospitals and schools, were being derailed by such shameful behavior.

He promised that the matter would be thoroughly investigated and the culprits brought to book, he urged the victims to volunteer information to enable the authorities apprehend the assailants.

The deputy governor, who was accompanied by state officials warned against any form of reprisals which could be counterproductive, pointing out that such venture, might truncate the determination of government to quickly get to the root of the matter.

Both of them went into the deceased bedroom. "Before she slept off that night, the deceased teenage daughter identified as Onyinye said she heard noise and exchange of threats between her mother and Victor but did not enter the bedroom, as she thought it was some private matter that would be resolved amicably, after which she slept off. Their neighbors also reported that they heard Bianca’s shouts at night but did not enter her apartment as they equally did not envisage it would lead to her death. “It was in the morning of the next day 11th of May, 2013, that one of the neighbours asked the deceased children after their mother, to which the children said she was still asleep. The fact of Bianca’s death however dawned on them, when her children were begging their neighbours for money to enable them eat." Begging for money "Their neighbour’s suspicion was compounded when the children further told them that they were begging for money because their mother had been sleeping since morning. This prompted them to go over to the deceased apartment, and opened her door, only to see Bianca lying on the bed, stone dead. "The neighbours said they tried contacting us but apart from her children living with her, they did not know any of us. However, one of them identified as Philiper saved the day because she has the GSM number of one of Bianca’s friends identified as Chioma. She contacted her and she in turn was asked to contact any of us to come and carry her body. "That was how we were able to know what happened and when we came, we discovered that her killer was on the run.” Speaking with Crime Alert, Chioma, late Bianca's friend, said she could not believe what she heard, because it sounded like a rude joke. This made her to place a call across to the suspect, Victor, as she has his phone number. According to Chioma, immediately the suspect picked her call, he hurriedly asked her if any of her friends had called her. She reportedly asked him why he was asking such question and he said it had to do with the deceased, Bianca, whom he had problems with. In shock, Chioma shouted, “so it is true you have killed Bianca, you will pay for it”, and immediately, Victor switched off his phone. Crime Alert learnt that the case was reported at Elemero police station, and policemen came from the station and took the remains of the deceased away. Autopsy carried out on Bianca’s remains revealed that she died as a result of strangulation. A 29 year old crane operator Moses Okwudili (pictured in black operating the crane) died yesterday evening Monday June 3rd on the set of Elvis Chuks movie, Hustlers, after the crane he was operating made contact with high tension wires. Moses pushed the crane too far up, and was looking at the monitor when the crane made contact with a naked wire. He was electrocuted on the spot. US Places $23m Reward For Boko Haram leader, Shekau And 4 Others

The US today Monday June 3rd posted up to $23 million in rewards to help track down five leaders of militant groups accused of spreading terror in west Africa.
The highest reward of $7 million is offered for the Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, who last week called on Islamists in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq to join the bloodyfight to create an Islamic state in Nigeria.
The US State Department's Rewards for Justice program alsotargeted Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), offering itsfirst ever bounties for wanted militants in west Africa.
Up to $5 million was posted for Al-Qaeda veteran Mokhtar Belmokhtar, the one-eyed Islamist behind the devastating attack on an Algerian gas plant in January in which 37 foreigners, including three Americans, were killed.
A further $5 million was offered for top AQIM leader Yahya Abou Al-Hammam, reportedly involved in the 2010 murder of an elderly French hostage in Niger.
Malik Abou Abdelkarim, a senior fighter with AQIM, and Oumar Ould Hamaha, the spokesman for Mali's Movement for Oneness and Jihad in West Africa (MUJAO), were also targeted by the rewards program, which will give up to $3 million each for information leading to their arrests.

You have to appreciate and respect the fans, but you also have some of them who are thinking of other things. I think it's one of the most challenging relationships one can have.
You won't even spend much time with your partner becausehe's on the road most of the time doing shows and concerts;even during holidays like Christmas, Easter and New Year, they are not around. Peter has drive. He has vision and pursues it. He doesn't let anybody distract him from that vision and that I saw in him, which a lot of people didn't see. Some people were like, 'what are you doing with a musician? Are you crazy?' but I saw something very different and unique about Peter.
I saw the goals he set for himself and how he accomplished those goals step by step, and I was very impressed with that. I also saw that he wasn't a selfish person.
He was a generous person from the outset, even though he didn't have much then, he was always generous. I like a man who is generous, not for the financial reason, but also to see how he can add value to other people's lives; that is very important to me. Dangote has been named Africa's first $20billion man, thus becoming one of the top 25 richest people in the world.

Nigerian billionaire and Africa's richest man Aliko Dangote has become the first African entrepreneur to lay claim to a$20 billion fortune as the stock value of his largest holding, Dangote Cement, leaped just about three-fourths since March when Forbes released its annual ranking of the world's richest people.
Aliko Dangote's 93% stake in the cement company is now worth $19.5 billion. Add this to his controlling stakes in other publicly-listed companies like Dangote Sugar and National Salt Company of Nigeria and his significant shareholdings in other blue-chips like Zenith Bank, UBA Group and Dangote Flour; his extensive real estate portfolio, jets, yachts and current cash position, which includes more than $300 million in recently awarded Dangote Cement dividends, Dangote is now worth more than $20 billion.
Put into context, the Nigerian billionaire is now among the top 25 richest people in the world, richer than Russia's richest man, Alisher Usmanov, richer than India's Lakshmi Mittal and running neck and neck with India's Mukesh Ambani. He is catching up to such Americans as Google's billionaire founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
The unprecedented surge in Dangote Cement's share price is largely a market response to the company's impressive 2013 Q1 results.
The cement manufacturer's unaudited results for the three months ending March 31 showed that the company's pre-tax profit rose to $339 million, representing an 80.6% increase from last year and a strong indicator of the company's future earning potential. The results also indicatea 79.5 % rise in its earnings per share over the corresponding period last year.
Explaining the company's share price boost in an email to Forbes , Carl Franklin, Dangote Cement's Head of Investor Relations in the U.K said that in the first quarter of 2013, thecompany had a huge increase in demand across Nigeria, gassupply improved considerably and the capacity was much more ramped up.
"So Q1 was the first sign of just how profitable we can be in Nigeria. The amazing thing is that 66% of our gas-fired production in Q1 was done at 84% gas. Imagine what wouldhappen to margins if we did the same amount at 95%. This has given investors a good sense of what we can really do when everything goes in the right direction," Franklin said.
With a current market cap of $20.5 billion, Dangote Cement becomes the first Nigerian company to achieve a market capitalization of over $20 billion.
"It's certainly a landmark for a Nigerian company and we're proud to be the first to achieve it. Obviously we are focusing on building long-term and sustainable value for shareholdersthrough our investments in Nigeria and Africa. Nigeria is a very entrepreneurial country and I can assure you that othercompanies will follow us in achieving this."
Other companies might eventually achieve this, but it's going to take a bit of time. Dangote Cement currently accounts for more than a quarter of the total market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange. The second largest company on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) is currently Nigerian Breweries, West Africa's largest manufacturer of Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The company has a market cap of $8.5 billion.
Dangote debuted on the FORBES billionaires list in 2008 with a fortune we pegged at $3.3 billion. His fortune dropped to $2.5 billion in 2009 and plunged further to $2.1 billion in 2010. His fortune surged 557% in 2011 to $13.8 billion after he took Dangote Cement public. He dropped to$11.2 billion in last year's rankings, but rebounded at $16.1billion this year. Since March, his fortune has jumped another 30%.
Dangote was destined to shine in business. At age 8, he apparently gave packets of sweets he had made to the house servants to sell for him. His father Mohammed Dangote was a successful businessman and an associate of his maternal uncle Alhaji Sanusi Dantata. Dantata and his brother controlled the trade in kola nuts and livestock conducted by 200 agents. Dangote started building his fortune over three decades ago after taking a loan from Sanusi Dantata. He started trading in commodities like flour,sugar and cement.
He became a billionaire by later manufacturing these items. He started making pasta, salt, sugar and flour in 1997. But he found his gold mine in cement, when he was awarded a government's state owned cement business in 2000 and began building his own plant in 2003. He listed Dangote Cement in 2010.
Today, it is Africa's largest cement company providing cement to Nigeria and other African countries that otherwise would likely have to pay to import much of the materials.
Dangote still likely has bigger ambitions. He told Forbes Wealth Editor Luisa Kroll at Davos in 2011 that he expected his firm to have a market cap of $60 billion within five years.At $20.5 billion, Dangote Cement still has a long way to go to live up to that dream, and while it is quite unlikely that Dangote Cement could hit a $60 billion Market Cap by 2016,don't write it off as 'impossible'. With Dangote, you never know.

Anybody who knows me knows I love gadgets. I even buy gadgets before they come out, that is how bad it is. I order online because I want to be the first to buy it. It’s just like when they said I was a lesbian, I am not. The fact that I sometimes dress boyish does not mean I am a lesbian. People who know me know that I have a soul mate. But what happened was that someone saw me and said “oh, you’re one of the first Nollywood actresses to get a Porsche”. He just wanted to use it for his story but then she twisted it and allowed her readers to put malicious comments. Most of the good things we do, people don’t really put it out there in the media. I do charity, I’ve been doing charity even before I joined Nollywood but it’s not out there. I made my millions even before I joined Hollywood so somebody who doesn’t know me from nowhere cannot just sit down there and think I’m like this because I joined Nollywood! But she tendered an apology to you on Twitter… She did that because her sisters came to my Twitter page to insult me. Who does that? I had to tell them to stay off, to back off. And then she made an apology privately. Why would she do that? If she knew the thing they did was wrong, she should have tendered it openly. People do that. She then made another blog post about the apology and people who had been looking for ways to insult me just trooped there. More and more Nigerian celebrities who acquire expensive stuff now post it on social media. Do you think this is a show off? It’s not showing off, that is why it’s called show business. Show business is indirectly saying showing off but that is not what I call it. If you are in it, you have to be able to be out there and that is the truth. In Hollywood, they buy things and they put it out there so why is our own different? Last year, I got two new houses. Why didn’t they put that on the blogs? I got awards and nominations. Why didn’t they publish that? I have built my brand to this level so somebody can not just come from nowhere and just poke it like some balloon. I am made of steel, they should know that. Have you met Linda Ikeji since then? I haven’t. I don’t even know how she looks except someone points her out to me. I don’t visit blogs. It’s only when someone sends me a link of something that was published about me that I click on the link to read it. I don’t even read the news, I’m that bad. It’s only when I hear people talking about something then I go and google it. You were also obviously upset when on Twitter again, you responded to an allegation that you made a comment on her blog… At some point, someone went to her blog using my name to make a comment and a friend of mine called and told me about it. Why would I do that? I have three Facebook accounts and a fan page, two Twitter accounts, Instagram, Keek, Path and I’ve not been able to keep up with all of them. Why would I go to any blog to go and write stuff? Like, who does that? People would just say “oh, she is the one” and then come to my Twitter page to insult me. It’s wrong.
