President Jonathan Sick, Receives Treatment In London

The president's spokesperson confirmed the illness. President Goodluck Jonathan fell ill while in London on an official visit and had to seek medical attention, his spokesperson, Reuben Abati, has said.
Mr. Jonathan is in London for a meeting of Nigeria's Honorary International Investors' Council.
Mr. Abati said the president became indisposed and could not be present at the opening of the meeting on Thursday.
He said the President has since been examined by competent medical practitioners and "he has been advised to rest for a few days".
Mr. Abati did not state the ailment the president was diagnosed of or the hospital he visited.
"The Presidency wishes to assure all Nigerians that President Jonathan's condition is nothing serious and that the medical attention he has sought is only precautionary," the spokesperson said.

Special Fraud Unit Nab 24-Year-Old Nigerian For Defrauding US Couple Of $42,497

Operatives of the Special Fraud Unit, SFU, Milverton Road, Ikoyi, Lagos have arrested a 24-year-old man who posed as a lady to defraud a United States of America couple of $42,497, purportedly for the purchase of a property in Lagos. The suspect, identified as Olafinraye Adedamola, admitted the offence while being paraded yesterday. He was said to have connived with a Malaysian lady to defraud the couple. The Malaysian lady, according to him, was his Facebook friend, adding that he had intended to use the money to further his studies in a tertiary institution. Read how he was arrested after the break

Explaining how the artisan who trained in aluminum works was arrested, spokesperson for the unit, Ngozi Isintume-Agu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said: "An intelligence report dated September 24, 2013 from Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), Abuja addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Special Fraud Unit (SFU) alleged that one Olafinraye Adedamola opened a USD Domiciliary Account No. 273/6980678251/0 with the Demurin, Ketu, Lagos Branch of Sterling Bank Plc and through suspicious circumstances, cumulative sum of USD 42,497 was paid into the account by unsuspecting victims abroad between August 13, 2013 and September 16, 2013.
"The suspected illicit inflows were followed by immediate cash withdrawals by the suspect who appeared to have no known affiliation with the international depositors. "SFU operatives swung into action and investigation carried out on the domiciliary account revealed that $18,129.92 is still left in the account and a lien was immediately placed on the account. "The suspect was traced to his house at 7, Agidi Road, Oshogun, Alapere, Ketu, Lagos but he evaded police arrest and his father, a proprietor of a moribund driving school, feigned ignorance of his son's whereabouts.
However, the fleeing suspect was later apprehended by the Police. "Olafinraye Adedamola who posed as a lady named Janet was born in 1989 in Kosofe LGA Ketu, Lagos. "An artisan who trained in construction of aluminum but currently a driving instructor in his father's moribund driving school located in Ketu, Lagos claimed he met a Nigerian at a conference in Malaysia who introduced him to the victim who requested that he purchased property for him in Nigeria which was the basis for the disbursement of the money into his account and that he had already bought a building at Ogba, Ikeja for N4 million and that the documents were with him."

Adedamola who noted that this was his first attempt, said he first met the couple on Facebook and in the course of their discussion, booked for a meeting in Malaysia. According to him; "I posed as Janet on the Facebook, using a white woman's photograph. I told the couple that I was an estate manager and convinced them to buy property in Lagos. "Since they have not been to Nigeria, they asked us to meet elsewhere and when I stumbled on a business conference that was holding in Malasia, I booked the meeting.
"On reaching Malaysia, I told a Facebook lady friend to pose as Janet after telling her what to say. That was how the deal was struck and they paid the dollar equivalent of N3.4 million into my account. I intended to use the money to further my studies because I am determined to be a graduate. I used part of the money to travel again to Malaysia for leisure in August. "My regret is that I was caught at the end because I used my genuine data to open the account. I guess it was because it is my first time."
The suspect, according to Isintume-Agu, will be charged to court.

Young Nigerian Woman Killed in Columbus Indiana By Her Neighbour

The body of 26 year old Adaobi Michaella Obih (pictured above) was found yesterday Tuesday Nov. 19th at an apartment at Riverstone Apartments in Columbus, Indiana. Her death is being investigated as a homicide.
A spokesman for the Columbus Police Department said her neighbour, 36 year old Ryan Allen Klug, (pictured above) is a person of interest in the case. Ryan also lived in the apartment complex but has gone missing since Adaobi's body was found.
The Columbus Police have not revealed how and why Adaobi was killed but they're currently seeking the public's help in locating Ryan Klug.
Adaobi was the first of two children and was already pursuing her PHD in Electrical Engineering at just 26 years old. May her soul rest in peace…Amen.

Photos: Drama As Driver Strips Naked To Evade Arrest By LASTMA Officials

A mild drama ensued at the Palmgrove Bus Stop, Ikorodu Road, Lagos State yesterday when a commercial bus driver stripped naked to avoid being arrested by officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority. The LASTMA officials had blocked five different commercial buses for indiscriminately taking passengers by the side of the road. Passengers in the four vehicles were asked to alight, as officials of the traffic agency took over the wheels of the impounded vehicles. There was however drama when the old man who drove the fifth bus suddenly went inside his bus and brought out a bowl. More after the break
A fetid odour emanating from the bowl polluted the fresh morning air. The LASTMA officers, policemen and commuters ran for cover. But one of the officials came back and stood his ground, wielding a baton and insisting that the man must follow them. When it became obvious that the odour strategy had failed, the driver began pulling off his clothes, prostrating by the front tyres of the vehicle and rolling on the floor.
A crowd formed around the area, with some of the bystanders capturing the scene with their camera phones. One of the officials was heard telling his colleagues to "leave him alone and let him go." However, they took close shots of the vehicle number plate, and the driver, before taking other seized vehicles away. Our correspondent spoke with a resident who said he knew the old man well.
He said, "That is how the man usually does. His bus plies Lagos Island everyday and he picks his passengers from that spot." The source, who did not identify himself, added that it was the second time the man would put up the show. He said the bus was owned by a military officer.
When our correspondent approached the old man for comment, he refused to talk.
When he was, however, confronted with the allegation of being a serial offender, he said, "Look, whoever wants to talk should talk. Everybody has his problems and I have mine." He drove the vehicle into a filling station. Attempts to speak with LASTMA proved abortive. An officer who spoke with our correspondent on the telephone said he was not disposed to comment and referred him to another senior officer, who equally declined comment.

Chaos On Ajah Road in Lagos As Trailer Kills Five School Children

There's serious pandemonium on Ajah Road in Lagos as you read this. Area boys and passers-by are clashing with policemen after a trailer crushed five students as they were crossing the road. The sad incident happened close to Ikota Primary School and the dead pupils are believed to be making their way to the school when they were killed. The tanker driver abandoned his truck and escaped.
The people protesting are insisting they won't leave the area until Governor Fashola shows up. They are blaming the gruesome accident on the lack of a pedestrian bridge in the area.
